This was a stage where it was extremely easy to get lost: “For the entire duration of the Dakar Rally, you have to stay fully concentrated on what you are doing and where you are going”, says the French rider “And this is all the more true when you are right in the middle of such a huge desert, with complicated mountains and valleys”.

Despres’ technical choice is the Rudy Project Klonyx Mx Red fluo goggles, which provide exceptional performance levels in extreme environments and situations due to their innovative technical features. Above all, the interchangeable lenses, which guarantee perfect vision in all light conditions: from a transparent lens, which is perfect for rain and poor lighting, to Kayvon RedTM which can increase the contrast of surfaces on cloudy days, through to Yellow, which is perfect for fog. The goggles also use the handy Tear-off System, which allows the application of tear off lenses, so that dirty ones can be removed quickly to restore clear vision when racing hard or in difficult conditions.

Klonyx Mx also ensures exceptional peripheral vision thanks to the large wraparound lens which has been designed for optimum protection of the eyes from dust, wind and rain.

The goggles have an enhanced aeration system thanks to the front air vents and a comfortable multi-layer structure made of breathable foam, as well as a soft rubber Nose Protector that offers protection against the sun and cold.

Klonyx Mx also offers the possibility of fitting an optical insert inside the goggles to correct sight defects.

The next stage of the Dakar, tomorrow 9th January, is a 275km race from Arequipa to Arica, along a very demanding route which will see the competitors enter Chile. Another important challenge for Cyril Despres and for Rudy Project.
